Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC (“Eckert Seamans”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (June 23, 2025) – Federman & Sherwood, a nationally recognized law firm specializing in data breach litigation, is investigating a recent data security incident involving Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC (“Eckert Seamans”).
On or around April 17, 2025, Eckert Seamans detected suspicious activity on a firm attorney’s computer. A subsequent investigation revealed that an unauthorized actor gained access to the attorney’s device and obtained limited data, including a 2019 alumni list associated with Wheeling Jesuit University (now Wheeling University), for whom Eckert Seamans had previously provided legal services.
According to the notice issued, the information accessed may include sensitive personal data of alumni. While the firm has stated that there is currently no evidence of misuse, it has taken steps to secure its network, notified law enforcement and regulators, and is offering affected individuals complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection through Experian.
Federman & Sherwood is currently evaluating the scope of the breach and the legal rights of those affected.

- Other sensitive information
