Elixir Medical Corporation Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

The exposure of Social Security numbers together with financial, medical, and other identifying information may significantly increase the risk of identity theft, financial fraud, medical identity theft, unauthorized account activity, and other forms of misuse.
Elixir states that it is continuing to implement and evaluate enhanced safeguards and security measures and provide security training to its employees. The company is also offering affected individuals complimentary Experian IdentityWorks Credit services, which include three-bureau credit monitoring, identity restoration assistance, and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance. The publicly filed notice does not specify the duration of the complimentary membership.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether Elixir Medical Corporation implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards to protect sensitive personal information and whether additional security measures could have prevented or reduced the impact of the data breach.
