Bennett College Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
September 8, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Bennett College data breach following a notification filed with the California Attorney General.
According to the notice, Bennett College experienced a network disruption on or around November 15, 2025. The college immediately took steps to address the incident, contacted law enforcement, and engaged third-party computer forensic specialists to determine the nature and scope of the event. The investigation determined that certain information stored on Bennett College’s network was subject to unauthorized access for a limited period between October 27 and November 15, 2025.
Bennett College conducted a review of the potentially affected data to determine what information was involved and to whom it related. That process was completed on July 9, 2026. The potentially compromised information included individuals’ first and last names in combination with additional personal information. The specific additional data elements are redacted from the publicly filed notice.
Bennett College reports that it has implemented additional technical safeguards following the incident. As a precaution, affected individuals are being offered 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company, including single-bureau credit monitoring, a credit report, credit score, and proactive fraud assistance.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether Bennett College implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards to protect sensitive personal information and whether additional security measures could have prevented or reduced the impact of the data breach. The firm is also evaluating potential legal claims on behalf of affected individuals.
