Kern Psychiatric Health and Wellness Center, Inc. Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

August 31, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Kern Psychiatric Health and Wellness Center, Inc. data breach following a notification filed with the California Attorney General.

According to the notice, on June 22, 2026, Kern Psychiatric Health and Wellness Center’s management company, Genesis Healthcare Management, discovered unusual activity on its computer network. An investigation with third-party specialists determined that certain files on the Genesis network containing Kern Psychiatric Health and Wellness Center data had been accessed without authorization.

The potentially affected information includes individuals’ names in combination with one or more of the following: Social Security numbers, driver’s license or government-issued identification numbers, dates of birth, diagnosis and treatment information, prescription information, provider names and locations, dates of service, medical record numbers, patient account numbers, Medicare or Medicaid identification numbers, laboratory results, and health insurance information.

Genesis reportedly worked with cybersecurity specialists to investigate the incident and implement additional security precautions, notified law enforcement, and reviewed its data-protection policies and procedures. The notice states that Kern Psychiatric Health and Wellness Center is not aware of fraud or unauthorized publication of information resulting from the incident.

Affected individuals are being offered 12 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services, including single-bureau credit monitoring, a credit report, and a credit score.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether Kern Psychiatric Health and Wellness Center, Inc., Genesis Healthcare Management, and other responsible parties implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards to protect sensitive patient information and whether additional security measures could have prevented or reduced the impact of the data breach. The firm is also evaluating potential legal claims on behalf of affected individuals.
