Central Maine Healthcare Data Security Class Action Settlement
August 28, 2026 – A proposed $1,368,025 class action settlement has been reached in the Business and Consumer Court for Androscoggin County, Maine, resolving claims arising from a 2025 data security incident involving Central Maine Healthcare Corporation d/b/a Central Maine Healthcare and Central Maine Medical Center.
The lawsuit, styled In re Central Maine Data Security Litigation, Docket No. ANDSC-CIV-2025-00083, concerns the potential unauthorized access to private information maintained by Central Maine Healthcare and Central Maine Medical Center from approximately March through June 2025. The information potentially impacted included names combined with private health information or other non-public personally identifiable information. The defendants deny wrongdoing or liability, and the Court has not determined that any law was violated.
The settlement class generally consists of individuals residing in the United States whose private information may have been impacted by the data incident and who were sent individual notification that they were affected.
Under the proposed settlement, a $1,368,025 Settlement Fund will be established. Eligible class members may submit claims for up to $5,000 in documented losses traceable to the data incident or, alternatively, receive an estimated $50 cash payment without documentation. Class members may also claim one year of medical records monitoring in addition to either cash benefit. Central Maine Healthcare and Central Maine Medical Center have also agreed to implement additional data security measures following the incident.
The deadline to object to or request exclusion from the settlement is September 13, 2026, and the deadline to submit a claim is September 28, 2026. The Court has scheduled a Final Approval Hearing for October 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
