Insight Partners Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (September 17, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces it is investigating a data breach involving Insight Partners, a global private equity and venture capital firm.
According to a notice filed with the Maine Attorney General, Insight Partners discovered on January 16, 2025, that an unauthorized third party had gained access to information systems used by its human resources and finance teams. The investigation determined that the attacker first infiltrated Insight Partners’ network on or around October 25, 2024, using a sophisticated social engineering attack. The intruder exfiltrated sensitive data and, on January 16, 2025, began encrypting servers before being expelled from the system.
The personal data affected varies by individual but may include names, Social Security numbers, financial and payroll information, and other sensitive records. While Insight Partners reports no evidence of misuse to date, the nature of the data involved presents a risk of potential identity theft or fraud.
To help mitigate risks, Insight Partners is offering complimentary identity theft protection and credit monitoring services for impacted individuals. The firm has also strengthened its security protocols, rebuilt compromised servers, and enhanced system access requirements. Law enforcement and regulatory authorities have been notified.
