Industrial Acceptance Corporation (IAC) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

May 29, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood, a national consumer protection law firm, is investigating the Industrial Acceptance Corporation (IAC) data breach, a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to sensitive personal information that was reported to the Attorney General of Maine.

According to the notice, Industrial Acceptance Corporation, an automotive financing company based in Connecticut, became aware of unauthorized activity within its network on or about February 24, 2025. The company immediately took systems offline and engaged cybersecurity and forensic specialists to investigate the incident. The investigation later determined that IAC was the victim of a ransomware attack attributed to the INC ransomware group and that files were exfiltrated from its network on or about March 4, 2025. The company’s review of the affected data was completed on May 11, 2026.

The information potentially exposed includes individuals’ names, Social Security numbers, and driver’s license numbers. Approximately 226 Maine residents were reportedly affected by the incident.

Data breaches involving automotive finance companies are particularly concerning because they often maintain highly sensitive consumer financial and identity information that may be used for identity theft, financial fraud, and other forms of misuse.

Federman & Sherwood is actively investigating whether Industrial Acceptance Corporation implemented reasonable cybersecurity safeguards and whether this data security incident could have been prevented. The firm is also evaluating potential legal claims on behalf of individuals affected by the IAC data breach.

IAC reported that it notified federal law enforcement, reviewed its security controls, and is offering affected individuals twelve (12) months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Cyberscout, a TransUnion company.

Consumers who received a notice regarding the Industrial Acceptance Corporation data breach or who believe their personal information may have been compromised are encouraged to monitor their financial accounts and credit reports for suspicious activity.

The potentially compromised information may include:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers
  • Other sensitive information
