Green Mountain Higher Education Consortium (“GMHEC”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (November 5, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood has initiated an investigation into a recent data breach involving Green Mountain Higher Education Consortium (“GMHEC”), following the organization’s filing of a data breach notification with the Maine Attorney General and notices sent to affected individuals.

According to the notification, GMHEC discovered suspicious activity within its email environment on November 19, 2024. The organization took immediate steps to secure its systems and engaged third-party cybersecurity specialists to investigate. The investigation determined that two employee email accounts were accessed by an unauthorized party between October 30, 2024, and November 20, 2024, and that certain personal information was contained within the affected data.

The information that may have been compromised varies by individual but may include an individual’s name in combination with one or more additional personal or identifying data elements.

GMHEC has reported that it has strengthened security safeguards and reviewed internal policies to reduce the likelihood of future incidents. To support affected individuals, GMHEC is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services, including credit report access, credit score monitoring, and proactive fraud support.

Federman & Sherwood is investigating the incident to determine whether affected individuals may be entitled to compensation, enhanced identity protection services, or other legal remedies.

The compromised information may have included:

  • Full name
  • Social Security number
  • Other sensitive information
