California Casualty Indemnity Exchange, California Casualty Insurance Company, California Casualty & Fire Insurance Company, and California Casualty General Insurance Company of Oregon (collectively, “California Casualty”) Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (November 20, 2025) – The law firm of Federman & Sherwood announces that it is investigating a data security incident involving California Casualty Indemnity Exchange, California Casualty Insurance Company, California Casualty & Fire Insurance Company, and California Casualty General Insurance Company of Oregon (collectively, “California Casualty”), following the Companies’ filing with the Attorney General of Maine.
According to the filing, California Casualty detected suspicious activity within its IT network and immediately initiated its incident-response protocols. These actions included isolating affected systems, engaging a third-party cybersecurity firm to conduct a forensic investigation, and notifying law enforcement.
The investigation determined that an unauthorized individual accessed the Companies’ IT network between September 2 and September 8, 2025, during which time the unauthorized actor copied certain files containing personal information.
On November 5, 2025, California Casualty determined that the compromised files contained personal information belonging to approximately two Maine residents. The types of information involved varied by individual but may include name, Social Security number and other sensitive information.
On November 19, 2025, California Casualty began sending notification letters to affected individuals via U.S. First Class Mail, and is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring services. The Companies are also establishing a dedicated toll-free call center for individuals who have questions.
California Casualty reported that it has implemented, and continues to implement, additional security safeguards and technical measures to further protect and monitor its systems and reduce the likelihood of similar incidents in the future.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether California Casualty took adequate measures to safeguard sensitive personal information and whether affected individuals may be entitled to compensation under state or federal law.
The compromised information may have included:
- Full name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Driver’s license number
- Tax identification number
- Financial information
- Other sensitive information
