DocketWise Data Breach – Investigated by Federman & Sherwood
April 6, 2026 – Federman & Sherwood is investigating a data breach involving DocketWise following a data breach notification filed with the Maine Attorney General, which reported a data security incident affecting consumers’ personal information.
According to the filing, DocketWise, an immigration and case management platform for legal professionals based in Austin, Texas, identified suspicious activity in October 2025 involving unauthorized access to credentials associated with a third-party partner system. The company initiated an investigation with the assistance of third-party cybersecurity experts.
The investigation determined that an unauthorized actor used valid credentials to clone certain third-party partner repositories connected to DocketWise’s data migration pipeline. These repositories contained unstructured data belonging to law firm customers, including sensitive personal information of those firms’ clients. Cybersecurity experts confirmed that there is no evidence of ongoing unauthorized access.
Following the incident, DocketWise conducted a comprehensive data review to determine the scope of the breach and identify affected individuals. The company confirmed that the impacted data belonged to its law firm customers and coordinated notification efforts on their behalf.
The compromised information varies by individual but may include
- Names
- Social Security numbers
- Contact information (address, phone number, email)
- Government-issued identification numbers
- Other sensitive information
Notification to impacted individuals began on April 3, 2026.
In response to the data breach, DocketWise is offering affected individuals 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services through IDX. The company also reported that it has implemented additional security measures and is reviewing its policies to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
Federman & Sherwood is investigating whether DocketWise and its third-party partners employed reasonable data security safeguards to protect sensitive personal information. The investigation focuses on whether adequate credential protections, monitoring systems, and vendor oversight practices were in place.
